Geographical Location

Kandhamal district lies between 83.30 degree E to 84-48 degree E longitude and 19-34 degree N to 20-54 degree latitude. It has an average elevation of 300 to 1100 mtrs. The average rainfall is about 1597.1 mm.

Kandhamal is a district of Orissa, spread over an area of 8021 sq. km. Phulbani is the headquarter of this district. Kandhamal is a land of scenic charm, beautiful water falls, natural springs and hill tracts. The principal inhabitants of this land are the Khanda tribes. Major languages spoken in this district are Oriya and Kui (tribal language).

Airways:The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar which is 211 Kms away from Phulbani. There is one air strip at Gudari (5 kms from Phulbani) for landing of small planes and helicopters.

Roadways:Kandhamal is connected to Sambalpur via Baudh (170 Km), Bhubaneswar via Nayagarh (210 Km), Berhampur (165 Km) and Bolangir (170 Km) by road. Bus transport is easily available from the cities mentioned above.

Railways:The nearest railway station is Rairakhol, which is 99 Kms away from the district headquarter Phulbani.
